How to overcome procrastination, negative thinking, and loneliness

Something I’ve learned about myself as a writer is that I need to have specific tasks and accountability to help me keep momentum going. It’s not enough for me to have a general goal, like “work on my book idea” or “interview my character” or “finish this draft.” Because those general types of goals become overwhelming, and then procrastination sets in.

I’m in the middle of a two-week online workshop where a new assignment arrives every weekday. The eight of us in the class are supposed to post something daily from the assignment. The instructor gives feedback.

What a great structure! I have something specific to do each day. I have someone waiting on me to fulfill my end of the bargain.

I’m making progress, and I feel good about it.

Is momentum, progress, accountability, and positivity what you need too?

I’ve got you. Allow me to introduce you to the Make Sh*t Happen Accountability Group!

  • Includes a weekly individual goal setting and tracking report shared just between you and me – so we never lose sight of your goal.

  • Includes a 2-hour group call with all writers on the 1st and 3rd weeks of the month, (the very first group call is this Wed. February 1!) from 12-2 Eastern – so no one is doing this in a vacuum.

    • On each call, everyone will get a chance to reflect on the past two weeks, whether they're on track for their goals, and share any challenges they're facing. Each writer will get ~20 minutes of 1:1 "hot seat" live coaching on the issue of their choice each call (hot seat time could be used for mindset coaching, overcoming challenges, or editing/review of a couple of pages). I may open with information or coaching on issues relevant to the group's common goals.

  • Includes a Slack channel just for group members, we can all share support and resources with each other and ask questions and receive answers – so we can be in communication in between the live call times.

  • Includes resources from my HUGE catalog of things I or others have created – so you have what you need when you need it without doing the research yourself. Consider me your craft-and-draft librarian!

This program will work best for someone who knows what they have to do but has struggled to get it done by themselves. Someone who is desperate to overcome procrastination and the negative feelings that come with it. Someone who is tired of feeling alone in the struggle.
