This may be the shortest memoir ever. It is ~12k words, which comes out to 42 pages. But it is the story I wanted to tell. It couldn’t be longer, because I only included what was relevant to the story. It has an arc. It has a point. It has an ideal reader. It has a structure that serves it. The decisions I made for it were intentional. I have been working on this for four years, and everything I generated that went into the first draft was the raw material from which this draft was forged. Four years to get only 42 pages? That’s right. I’m pretty confident that this is the form it was meant to be all along, but I had to do all the other work to get here.

One does not simply sit down and write a book. Writing is a journey of self discovery, and then a process of sculpting and shaping and creating and reworking until it is done.

These are all things I work on with writers as well. These are all things that books need.

I am sending it out for publishing consideration to places that look for short works. We’ll see what happens!
